Spring 2010 Successful Private Adoption Workshop

Saturday, May 22, 2010, 9am to 3pm
The workshop addresses issues and concerns faced by those involved in the adoption process.
Discussion and advice will be offered by those who have been involved directly in adoption: adoptive parents, biological parents, attorneys, psychologists, and social workers.
This workshop will include:
- Legal information for Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia;
- How to Complete a Home Study;
- Open adoption or retaining confidentiality;
- Ways to avoid contested adoptions;
- Advertising strategies; and Birthparent perspectives.
Families for Private Adoption is a non-profit volunteer group in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area providing support and education to those involved in the process or considering private adoption. FPA is concerned with preserving the dignity of all parties involved in the private adoption process and advocates an active role for adoptive and birth parents. FPA works to maintain private adoption as a legal option. And it is active in monitoring pertinent legislation throughout the nation.
